    Applications to the undergraduate programs for the fall semester are accepted through May 1, with an application fee of $30. In addition to the application form and fee, students must provide high school transcripts, official ACT or SAT scores, and a student self-report form. Students who are enrolling will need to provide proof of immunization to various diseases. Applications can be submitted on-line. Students accepted to the honors program must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, and must have a 3.5 university grade point average in order to graduate with an honors degree.

    In order to be accepted to the University, students must have scored at least 22 in the ACT or 1030 on the SAT; or have a 2.5 cumulative high school GPA; or be in the top half of their high school graduating class. Additionally student should have completed college preparatory coursework including four years of English, three years of mathematics, three years of social studies, two years of laboratory science, and two years of either a foreign language, computer science, visual and performing arts, or vocational education. Students must also meet particular combinations of requirements of test scores or coursework in mathematics.

    Graduate students must provide the following for admissions to the graduate school: application and fee and documents as required by the program to which they are applying. Many programs will require a preliminary application, which should be completed prior to submitting the University application. A graduate application has an application fee of $50.

    In 2004 Montana State enrolled 2,184 freshmen. The average incoming freshman had a high school grade point average of 3.31, graduated in the top 35% of his/her high school class, had an ACT score of 23 or an SAT score of 1112. The requirements for incoming students are a high school grade point average of 2.5, a high school class ranking of 50%, a comprehensive ACT score of 22 and/or a total SAT score of 1030. The majority of incoming freshmen undertake studies in the fields of university studies, arts & architecture, or letters & science.
